Defeat of Minns’ anti-protest laws a victory for the Palestine movement & democracy

Activists to rally to drop the charges over Herzog rally
Stop the War on Palestine spokesperson Adam Adelpour says “Minns’ attack on the democratic rights of the people of NSW has failed and he stands condemned. He must resign immediately.”
Stop the War on Palestine will protest outside the Downing Centre Court at 8.30am next Wednesday April 22 where one of the protesters arrested at the rally in February against Israeli President Isaac Herzog is set to appear in court. The protest will demand all charges on the Herzog protestors are dropped, call for justice for those injured by police and oppose plans to ban the Palestine protest slogan ‘Globalise the Intifada.’
“NSW’s highest court has struck down Chris Minns’ draconian anti-protest laws. This is a vindication of all those that opposed and stood in defiance of these unconstitutional laws, especially during the protest against war criminal Israeli President Isaac Herzog.” He continued.
Adelpour added “The Premier prepared and then unleashed horrific police violence on the community to silence criticism of Isaac Herzog on February 9, and he did it on a completely unconstitutional basis.”
The charges against protesters who attended the demonstration against Herzog must be dropped now. It is simply deplorable that the victims of an unconstitutional police crackdown are the ones before the courts, not the Premier or the police who inflicted countless injuries, many serious.
Speakers at the rally next Wednesday will include Maritime Union of Australia representatives and City of Sydney Greens Councillor Sylvie Ellsmore.
Adelpour finished by saying, “Minns’ plan to ban the phrase ‘Globalise the Intifada’ is every bit as undemocratic as his now buried anti-protest laws. If he doesn’t withdraw
the ban and tries to go ahead with it we will fight it in the streets and courts just like we did the anti-protest laws.”
